What is GalileoDiscovery
GalileoDiscovery is a discovery service for searching books, articles, journals, and other resources.
GalileoDiscovery allows, from a single interface, a simultaneous search of the University's collections and the libraries that cooperate in the Paduan Library System and integrates the records of Padua Research Archive and Research Data Unipd. In addition, it allows advanced bibliographic searches in electronic scholarly resources including journal articles, e-books, legal documents and more. Data are collected from thousands of primary and secondary commercial publishers and aggregators as well as from open access repositories.
GalileoDiscovery has intuitive, friendly, accessible design and can be used on computers, tablets and smartphones.
Searching and displaying results
By default, GalileoDiscovery searches in the library holdings (‘Library Catalogue’ profile), and it is sufficient to enter, for example, the title or author's name of the book you are searching for to start the search. For a search focused on electronic resources, you can select ‘Electronic Resources’ in the menu next to the search term entry field.
By choosing the ‘Search All’ profile, GalileoDiscovery will simultaneously query the holdings of libraries, online journals, subscription eBooks, a large index of bibliographical information and citations from different subject areas, as well as Padua Research Archive, the catalogue of the University of Padua's scientific research products, and Research Data Unipd, the digital archive of research data of the University of Padua.
On the results page, the filters on the right allow you to reorder and refine your search: for instance, you can select only journal articles or books, or choose resources in a specific language or those available in a specific library, or even filter by year, by author, by journal title.
Document retrieval
From the list of results, clicking on the title of the chosen document displays the full description and, in the case of physical material, the libraries that hold it with instructions for consultation or loan.
In the case of electronic documents, they can be consulted from computers on campus, or via off-campus connection services if outside the University network. Free and Open Access resources, on the other hand, can always be consulted.
Request and renewal
By logging in, it is possible to access many customised services, such as booking a borrowed book, renewing loans, saving searches, and customising search results.
For institutional users who are part of the University of Padua (students, lecturers, researchers, staff, etc.), access is via their Single Sign-On (SSO) credentials.
Other users can authenticate via Social Login, using their Google, Facebook or X (Twitter) credentials.
Discover Collections
GalileoDiscovery's Discover Collections function allows you to browse thematic collections that libraries have created by selecting the most relevant titles on a specific topic or for a bibliographic exhibition. Items in each collection can be sorted by relevance, date, title, author, or by performing a word search on their title.

Purchase Request
Institutional users of the University of Padua can contribute to enriching the bibliographic holdings of the libraries of the University Library System by requesting or suggesting the purchase of books for research and teaching purposes by filling in an online form on GalileoDiscovery, after Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication.
